Position Summary

The Acquisitions and Electronic Services Librarian is responsible for taking the leadership role in the procurement, licensing, and management of electronic information resources purchased by the law library. This position will work with the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services for the management of the library's budget. This position will also work with the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services, along with all other staff librarians, for the selection, acquisition, and marketing of both print and electronic resources. This position will be responsible for paying all library invoices and procuring all other library purchases.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in Library/Informatin Services with minimum 1 year of experience with the following relevant work experience: One year of library experience with technical services work, including either cataloging, systems, collection development, or serial acquisitions management.

Experience with an automated acquisitions system or an automated library system.

Basic experience with accounts payable/accounting systems.

Preferred Education and Experience

Preference for a Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science. Candidate with with 2-3 years work experience in an academic law library is also preferred. Experience with electronic resource management is a plus. Experience maintaining a mid-size budget is preferred. Strong skills with Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel, desired.

Experience and/or education may substitute for some of the required and desired qualifications. Applicants currently enrolled in a Master's program may be considered.

Job Duties
  • Leading the library acquisition functions and process:
    • Ordering all library materials.
    • Processing payment for all library materials and reconciling receipts.
    • Facilitating contract renewals for long-term and short-term contracts. This duty requires specific attention to contract start and end dates, as well as attention to renewal or cancellation deadlines.
    • Maintaining an organized and complete record of all library purchases, historic to present.
    • Liaising with vendors for all library purchases.
    • Serving as main point of contact for any internal or external questions regarding library purchases.
    • Coordinating acquisitions efforts with the University (Belk) Library.
    • Working with staff librarians to recommend materials for purchase. Soliciting materials for purchase for faculty research and teaching needs and interest.
    • Working with staff librarians to market acquisitions to students and faculty. This duty may include the designing or creating print and electronic materials.
    • Maintaining a listing of all library subscriptions and passwords, as needed.
  • Managing and maintaining the law library budget:
    • Assisting the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services in preparing the proposed budget requests in August of every year.
    • Maintaining a detailed, accurate, and up to date record of the library's budget. Having discrete records and meticulous tracking of all spending and funds available at any point during the fiscal year.
    • Processing and payment of all invoices in a timely and orderly manner. Tracking all invoice payment to date for each fiscal year.
    • Tracking subscription payment and renewal dates. This task will often include scheduling and attending meetings with vendors for contract and pricing negotiations with the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services.
  • Supporting access to library electronic materials.
    • Working with vendors to address issues regarding access to electronic materials as needed.
    • Working with internal IT to address issues regarding access to electronic materials as needed.
    • Working with internal communications team to update library materials linked on law library website.
    • Assist the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services in tracking electronic usage statistics, both internally and with vendors.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Supporting the library's faculty liaison program by assisting staff librarians with requests as needed. May include conducting directed research, collecting specific resources, and/or organizing research materials.
    • Managing access to LibGuides and other software products used to market library materials.
    • Serving as back up for mail collection when Administrative and Technical Services Paraprofessional is absent. Serve as back up for certain time sensitive duties for the aforementioned position as needed. Assist with service point coverage at the Circulation desk on a rare, but as needed, basis.
    • Cross-training on other departmental duties as determined by the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services.
    • Serving on law library committees as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned.
